What If Holiness Is about More Than We Don’t Do?

by: Rev. Gary L. Thomas, D.D.

Publisher: Zondervan, Grand Rapids, 2009

In his book, Dr. Gary Thomas explains that to be holy is not same with avoiding many bad things. To be holy means that we do what God wants us to do. This is the message of the gospel of transformation. It is applied in our daily life through our body: our eyes, mouths, ears, minds, hands and feet, and hearts that we present to God alone. That concept is called by Dr. Thomas as “Holy Available”. We can be holy not by our own merit, but also by the grace of God who empowers us to live holiness in His presence. Let this inspiring book teaches us to live holiness based on God wants us to do.

“This wide-ranging survey looks shrewdly and realistically at the incarnational life whereby Christ is formed in Christians. It confirms Thomas’s well-deserved reputation for authenticity, acuteness, and indeed authority on transformational Christian living.”
Rev. Prof. J. I. Packer, D.Phil., D.D.
Emeritus Professor of Theology di Regent College, Canada who earns Master of Arts (M.A.) and Doctor of Philosophy (D.Phil.) from University of Oxford, U.K.

“The first chapter alone is worth reading many times. This is beauty and struggle. This is the death that leads to life.”
Rev. John Ortberg, Ph.D.
Pastor at Menlo Park Presbyterian Church Menlo Park, California who holds Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Psychology from Wheaton College; Master of Divinity and Doctor of Philosophy in Clinical Psychology from Fuller Seminary. He took post-graduate studies at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland.

“Once again, Gary Thomas challenges me to live passionately for God and to apply his transforming power to my daily decisions.”
